Something my husband and I look forward to each year is the Antique and Classic Boat and Car Show. This is an annual event now in its 18th year. It is held along the Naples Causeway that divides Long Lake from Brandy Pond in August of each year.
It was a lovely warm summer day with a breeze blowing across the lake. Warm sun, blue skies, glowing mahogany and shiny chrome awaited us as we walked around the show. If you watched the movie “On Golden Pond”, you would know the feeling you get looking at boats and cars from a time gone by. The fine craftsmanship of the beautiful vintage wooden boats is truly amazing.
It was a free event and owners were there to share information with the public. Whether you wanted to know about the history of a boat or just wanted to say how much you admired the beauty of the craft, owners spent a lot of time chatting with you. It was nice to see how many young people own these boats that will probably by passed down to others in their families.
I think you will agree that the boats are beautiful.

After enjoying the show, we walked across the street to Rick’s Cafe.
Don’t be surprised when you first walk through to the hostess stand.
We sat outside under the awning and looked across the lake towards the mountains. We both enjoyed a nice salad.
On our walk home, we stopped at the Lakeside Dairy Bar that serves the best all natural ice cream in town. Strawberries and Cream and Pirate’s Treasure (rum based ice cream with soaked rum raisin and tropical fruit) were what we chose.
As we walked home, we said what a lovely day it had been. A summer day on a lake in Maine… like it had been for so many years in the past.

We got to see a few boats like this in Sunapee Harbor recently and snagged some photos. My husband and I are huge old boat lovers. I wish we had gotten to go to this event. We would have had a blast. What a fun day you had, huh? Thanks so much for sharing it with us!
New Hampshire has several antique wooden boat shows. “On Golden Pond” in real life is easy to find in New England. I’m so glad you enjoyed the photos, Candace.
We got to attend the Antique Boat Parade in Sunapee this weekend. So fun! My son left for college yesterday and there’s still a bit of summer left to enjoy. My hubby and I will be out scouting around going forward. We have all winter to hibernate. Thanks again!
I love wooden boats and vintage cars – to look at. I’m just glad that someone else is keen enough to do all the work that makes them so beautiful for me to enjoy. There is a wonderful show of antique and reproduction wooden sailing craft on the island of Noirmoutier, on the Atlantic coast of the Vendee, this weekend.
Hi Roger, Those lovely old boats do need so much upkeep and it is wonderful that so many are restored. I know the incredible amount of work involved is the reason that my husband hasn’t bought one.

Hi Rosemary, My husband spent so much time with the owner of the Danish Seine boat. It was the most unique of all the boats at the show. That sporty little Austin Healey was lovely.
What a wonderful day out – I love classic cars but have never really thought about old wooden boats. They´re stunning…am having a Grace Kelly moment from High Society here right now!! Maine is on my wish list to visit, it looks so beautiful.

I love the movie “On Golden Pond”, what a tearjerker! Thanks for reminding me I should watch that again. And that ice cream looks divine. It’s making me want to go get some “Eis” from one of the Italian run ice cream shops around here right now!

Aren’t we lucky to spend time in a place where there are so many simple and enjoyable things to do! Boat show is in Rockland this weekend so there will be a crowd there.
Very timely post: We’re right in the middle of Hot August Nights in my hometown right now, which is the biggest celebration of classic cars in the nation. I think some of those beauties pictured are right here now!

Thank you for stopping by and your compliment. Thank goodness that there are people who are caretakers of these wonderful boats. They will be around for another generation. I have been involved with the restoration of historic buildings and admire anyone who makes sure objects are not left to deteriorate.
Some of those vintage cars remind me of the first James Bond movie. Beautiful boats too!

How fun! I love antique boats. Just last week there was an estate sale here with an antique wooden boat. I didn’t get to see who bought it but it was a beauty!
A friend of mine owns a restored ’52 MG. We went to a car show together a few years back. We drove about 4 hours in it. It took some getting used to a car with no seatbelts, no radio, no air, etc. We lost second gear as we were nearing our destination. No one could fix it so we had to get a push start each time we stopped on the way home. It was the first “big” trip following the restoration, and it was quite the adventure.
What a delightful combination! I love boats and classic cars, too! Now, if I could have joined a dinghy regatta… :>
