What A Winter

What A Winterfour snowstorms in less than a month! Thank goodness, that my husband and I could get away for a couple of weeks. Each February, weary of the winter cold and snow, we head south to celebrate our anniversary in the warmth of the Florida sunshine instead of the bitter cold and snow of New Hampshire. After a blizzard dumped three feet of snow on the ground at the end of January, we were very happy to be able make our annual escape to Florida.

Looking at the photos above, where would you like to be in February.

As usual, we had a lovely anniversary. We also got to spend time with our children and grandchildren in south Florida before heading up the coast to check on the progress of our new home being built in Vero Beach. After two weeks of warm weather and delicious food, it was time to pack our bags and fly back home.

When traveling in the winter, we always keep track of the weather up north. Just before checking out of our hotel in Vero Beach and heading to the airport in West Palm Beach on Valentine’s day, I decided to check with our airline and it is a good thing I did. The fourth snowstorm in less than a month was heading toward New England. Snow and the threat of dangerously high winds caused the airlines to cancel hundreds of flights in and out of Logan Airport, the Boston Transit Authority shut down all their trains and buses, and people were advised to stay off the snowy roads because of the impending blizzard. Our hotel in Vero could only extend our stay for one night. Luckily, we were able to get a room at one of the airport hotels in West Palm Beach for an additional three days until we could fly home. Needless to say, we didn’t get home for a romantic Valentine’s dinner but we did get to enjoy warm weather for an extra four days.

I’m sure that most of my readers have seen what Boston looks like on your local or world news. Unfortunately, it is the same here in New Hampshire. All I can say is, if every winter was like what we are having this year, all New Englanders might just call it quits and move south. After you see my photos, I think you might see why we will be doing exactly that, later this year.

Our Long Drive Lined With High Piles Of Snow

We are lucky to have wonderful friends who look after our home when we travel. After each punishing snowstorm that occurred while we were gone, our drive was plowed and our walk shoveled. Our porch roof had to be shoveled off for a second time in less than a month as snow piled so high, it entirely covered the front windows on the second floor of our home. Good friends are priceless and we are thankful for their help when needed.

One thing that none of us knew was that while we were gone, one of our home’s thermostats stopping working because of a bad battery. The result caused a pipe in my potting shed to freeze. Wednesday, as the weather warmed above freezing, the frozen pipe melted. We were greeted by the sound of water flowing down into the basement when we arrived home. Thank goodness, we only had about an inch of water in part of our basement. The water in the basement has now been cleaned up, fans are blowing to dry everything up and life can return to normal.

By normal, I mean another day of bone chilling temperatures, staring out the window at a black and white world as snow continues to fall (95 inches have already fallen this winter), plowing and shoveling snow. We are quickly running out of places to put the snow and this is only the middle of February…what a winter.

We thought of ourselves as hardy souls when we decided to leave Florida twenty years ago and move to New Hampshire. Most people who live here are but after this winter, we are so happy that we have decided to move back south. Perhaps in future years, we will come back to New Hampshire but I can guarantee it won’t be in the winter.

    1. Hi Mad Dog, You are SO right. In the beginning I was hesitant about moving from New England but after this winter I know we have definitely made the right decision. 😀

  1. I really feel for you! I don’t like winter and cold. It’s been fairly mild here in London over the winter; cold but little snow. People get excited by snow but it may look pretty in the morning but in a city it only causes chaos. I’m so pleased to notice the days getting longer here and little signs of spring on its way. How nice for you to have your move south to look forward to.

    1. Thanks for your thoughts, Kay. This morning it is a balmy 5 degrees Fahrenheit but feels like -12 degrees with the wind chill factor. It will warm up a little before heading down to -3 tonight. They are predicting 6 more inches of snow and then perhaps some freezing rain over the weekend. Snow is pretty but I’m counting the days until it all melts. Looking forward to the move keeps me going right now. 🙂

  2. Impressive and utterly beautiful–and I am deeply thankful to have missed it! The snow setting suits your house, though, especially with icicles.

    1. Hi Vicki, It is an impressive amount of snow and it is lovely with the sun comes out and makes it sparkle. Mother Nature does a good job of making our home look pretty but I think she has gone overboard this winter. 🙂

  3. So much snow! I’m glad y’all were able to get some warm sunshine and experienced enough travelers to check the forecast! My husband and I learned that lesson the hard way once and will hopefully remember to do so from now on.

    1. Hi Plumdirt, Too much snow as far as we are concerned. 🙂 We were thrilled to be able to enjoy a couple weeks away in the warmth. Thank goodness I was able to find us hotel rooms and get us on a flight later in the week. When we flew home, the airport was mobbed with people still trying to fly to their destinations.

      1. Shut down airports are an amazing slice of humans at their very best (sometimes) or their very worst (most times.) I have thought (while stuck in a shut down airport) they should make a movie about it. Not too arty, but definitely not Hollywood. I’d watch it.

    1. Hi Alicia, Way more snow than anyone wants. The icicles are impressive and keep on growing whenever the sun comes out. I’m glad you enjoyed the photos, thank you.

  4. What a send off NH is giving you this winter! OMG!
Your FLA house looks great and at what speed is gets out of the ground! Congratulations.
I have only had 6″ snow here in central VA, yet the daily brutal cold with no thaw is horrid. Trying to keep the wild birds fed and watered, as Mother Nature is not done with us yet!
Glad you were home to catch that leak!!! Disaster averted!
When does the For Sale sign go up in NH? When will FLA house be completed? Hurrah! Diane

    1. Hi Diane, When winter started out, I thought it might be an easy one but nature is giving us a winter that will be talked about for years. We were so lucky to catch the leak…disaster averted is right. 😀 The house should be completed around the first of May. The For Sale sign will go up whenever the snow melts but we won’t move until after it is sold.

      1. A lot to look forward to! How did your barn/antique sale go? Will you need to downsize more for the FLA move? Décor will probably change, yes?

      2. The barn sales went well and I sold almost everything from our summer home in Maine. Yes, the decor will change on the Florida home. As soon as the weather turns warm, I’ll start new sales with antiques and furniture from this home.

  5. As a transplant from California, i never thought that I would think the thrill of New England is gone, but this sentiment has surfaced several times this month! Enjoy your new warm home!

    1. Hi Susan, I think most New Englanders are feeling the same this year…what a winter we are having. We can wait until our home is sold and we can move south to our new home being built in Florida. I know we are all looking forward to spring and it’s warmer days.

  6. It is even cold here in Florida this morning Karen. But nothing like what you have experienced. I can’t stand the bitter cold anymore and admire the hardy souls who live in New England. You are making a smart move.

    1. Hi Penny, It got down to 4l degrees while we were in Vero Beach. You only needed a light jacket at night and my husband said that is the coldest he ever wants to feel again. Even New Englanders who have lived here their entire life are complaining about this relentless winter. We truly think we have made the right decision to move back south.

  7. Karen – my first winter in Kittery was the 1995-96 winter to which all winters are now measured. In 2005 we moved to Tucson and now look back and realize – good decision! (Not that we doubted it then…) You home looks beautiful ion the snow – and I am glad you have good plowman, and good friends to shovel your roof! Stay warm and cosy – make lots of soups!

    1. Hi David, We were here in New Hampshire during the winter of ’95-’96 and it was a rough one. The way this one is going, it will be talked about for years as well. It appears that lots of people who live up north are moving south to warmer weather…winters are hard. Yes, soups help to comfort and keep you warm. Thank you for your thoughts.

  8. Brrr!!! As you know, I’m originally from Ohio and especially this winter, I have absolutely no desire to return! As pretty as your pictures look and as much as snuggling in front of a blazing fire sounds, Florida is my home! We are having some cold weather as you probably felt in Vero but for us we love the change! Glad to see you are moving South!!

    1. Hi Linda, We have met lots of people from Ohio who now make Florida at least their winter home if not a permanent one. I’m glad you enjoyed the photos and as you say, the snow is beautiful but we are getting way to much this winter. I’m looking forward to those winter days in Vero when all I’ll need is a light sweater instead of looking like the Michelin man when I bundle up to go out. 😀

    1. Hi Lily, I like your sweet thoughts and you are right, snow is indeed beautiful to look at for a little while. Trying to deal with bone chilling cold, high winds and snow more than waist high while going about your daily life is hard though. I think everyone in New England is missing summer terribly and counting the days until we can see green shoots making their way through the melting snow. 🙂

  9. So glad you were able to get away from that bone chilling cold for a bit. You have certainly had the winter this year. As you know we have been looking at possibly moving to New England and after this year, husband said………….hmmmmmmm perhaps we just go rent a house in the summer……..hahahah. There goes my dream of living in a small quaint Vermont or New Hampshire village………oh well……I can live through you! Best to you!

    1. Hi Tin Man, Thank you for your wish and kind thoughts. I think New England is one of the prettiest places imaginable. The charming villages are something we all read about in books and poems or see in the movies but winter is harsh. You can rent a little house or cottage in a different spot in New England each year during the summer or fall months and they will be magical…just like your dreams. You can then hand the keys back when you leave and not have to deal with winter. I believe your husband’s thinking is leaning in the right direction. 🙂

      1. Thank you Karen. Since I was a child I have been in love with New England and have always been more at home there. The harsh climate, land and people of Texas have never fit well for me, although I am living where my family has chosen since 1884 when the immigrated to this place; however, then it was part of Mexico and the bond between the Germans and Mexicans is historic……….and then came along the Americans. Oh well, I shall look forward to my trek to my true homeland, if only once a year for a short time!

  10. One last winter blast for y’all before you move south, eh? Wow! That’s a lot of snow. Reminds me of our first winter on Bull Run Mountain, but we only had about 30″ from an accumulations of a few snows that didn’t melt.

    1. Hi Debbie, Yes, nature is giving us a winter we won’t forget about…lots of snow and bitter cold this year. It certainly makes us know that we have made the right decision for us, Vero Beach sounds better each day. 🙂

  11. That’s an awful lot of snow! Glad you got to spend a few days in the comparative warmth of Florida, although we’re finding this winter much colder than we would like it to be. You must be really excited about your forthcoming move. 🙂

    1. Hi Sylvia, We were so happy to escape the snow for a little while and visit Florida. Yes, it was cooler than normal most days and we had a little rain but who could complain after what we are having up north. We are excited about our upcoming move and who knows…perhaps we will have the chance to meet someday.

    1. Hi Julie, White sand sure beats white snow if you have to deal with it for long periods of time. 🙂 We are looking forward to our future move and the warmth we will be enjoying. Thank you for your sweet wish, I know you are dealing with unusual cold as well.

  12. It has been a crazy Northeast winter, and while I would like to see some of the snow and ice and interesting phenomenon on the water I’m not unhappy to be here in Houston.New England does have its charm, but I’m not sure I’m hardy enough to stand more than a few days of the winter. I just have my fingers crossed that all is well at our house.

    1. Hi Linda, Only few days of winter sounds perfect. 🙂 I’ve thought about you often this winter. When we first started our life in New England, we had a home to return to each winter in Florida. We always kept our fingers crossed that when we returned each summer, we would find no winter damage to the house. Hopefully your beautiful home in Maine will be just fine in your absence over the winter.

  13. It was a winter much like this when we were still living in the NYC area that we decided to move to Florida. 😉 That’s a lot of snow! You’ll enjoy your return to Florida, I’m sure. Our winter hasn’t been so bad, although it’s quite cold (for here) at the moment. Happy Belated Anniversary!

    1. Hi John, Winters like this one are making lots of people think about relocating to a warmer climate. Cold is one thing but this is really too much snow…we’ve got another 6 inches coming over the weekend. Thank you for your wish, we had a lovely anniversary.

    1. Hi Cheri, You are right on all counts…it is picture postcard pretty but it does get old. It wouldn’t be so bad if this was all we were going to get but they are predicting 6 more inches over the weekend. Thank you for your wish, I hope you have a nice weekend as well.

    1. Hi Marcela, The snow really is pretty, especially when you live in the countryside like we do and it stays so white. I’m glad you enjoyed the photos and appreciate your visit.

  14. Karen, Your photos are so beautiful, but I do not miss the cold. I remember living back in the Midwest and when a snow storm came through they had to call the National Guard to dig me out, at that time we had horses, so it was not easy taking care of the animals. I am pretty wimpy these days and I could not deal with the harshness that the cold brings.

I love your “this ole house”, but your new one is going to be gorgeous also.

    1. Thank you for your lovely compliment, Madonna…I’m glad you enjoyed the photos. I agree with you about the beauty of winter but also its harshness. We will miss our beautiful home here in New Hampshire but I’ve gotten to be a wimp too and am looking forward to our new house. As you can see, it will be very different…both in looks, size and of course the weather. New adventures await us. 🙂

  15. The new house looks SO FLORIDA!! Elegant.. lovely..
I bet you have picked the interior finishings ..Isn’t it exciting?
I agree..this winter has been bitter.
Bitter cold here..we have snow..it looks like you..but it has come on regularly and gradually..It’s the cccoooold! At least the sun shines on most days.
I don’t mind the winter since I don’t work anymore.
Gives me time to do the indoor things I like..
However if our kids moved somewhere else..I would want to folow:) WE just cannot move outside of Canada really because of medicare etc..and our exchange right now..Oy.

I did love our little place there..but we just didn’t use it enough..
Karen..I hope you will continue to share the blue skies..warm temps..and home updates..Fun to watch!

    1. Hi Monique, We are both living in similar circumstances with this cold weather…I’m dreading going out today to restock my kitchen. Yes our new house is very Florida looking in style with an open concept design inside. We will only be able to bring a few pieces of our current furniture as the house is much smaller than our New Hampshire home so it will be a little challenging to decorate. I’m glad that you enjoyed seeing the photos, I’ll be happy to share updates as our new home progresses. Thank you for your sweet comment and stay warm.

  16. Well, at least it looks as though you have been prepared. As someone who grew up in the Rockies, I love snow, but I’m now of an age that I love it better when I’m sitting in front of a roaring fire, looking out the window.

    1. Hi Darryl, We are prepared to handle the snow with my husband’s truck and plow and our tractor with its bucket loader. Thankfully we also have good friends to help when we are not here. I’m with you though, shoveling snow is something I’d rather not do too often…sitting in front of a warming fire is much nicer. 🙂

  17. Hello Karen. Your new house looks a lovely style you have chosen. I’m sure you can’t wait to move to warmer weather. I hope your severe winter with so much snow won’t put off prospective buyers. Your photos are lovely and as all your followers write the snow looks beautiful to see, but I’m sure so much in such a short period must be hard to contend with.

    1. Thank you Barbara, for your nice compliment. I’m glad you like the style of our new home…very different from our nearly three hundred year old colonial home. You and all my readers are correct, the snow is absolutely beautiful and makes our house look so pretty on a sunny day surrounded in white. This winter has been a challenge because of so much snow in such a short period of time. We are not even going to attempt to show our home to prospective buyers until the snow melts. I’m really hoping a buyer can see the orchard in spring when the apple trees are in bloom and fall in love with our place like we did. 🙂

  18. Your side by side pictures say it all, Karen! The East coast has really taken a beating. Very cold here now as well. Your home in Vero Beach is going to be fabulous!

    Jane x

    1. Hi Jane, I’m glad that you liked the comparison, I thought side by side photos was a good way to show why we are leaving New England for Florida. We are looking forward to starting a new adventure in our life in the months and years to come.

  19. Oh, Karen! You will always remember your last winter in New Hampshire! If there were any doubts in your mind about moving south, they have been buried under many feet of snow. Although we live in the cold, snowy Midwest, our hearts feel so bad for all of the people in New England who are enduring such a relentless winter this year. Your photos make it all so real. Warm wishes for a slow melt and the countdown to springtime! ♡

    1. I really enjoyed your comment Dawn, thank you. You are so right about my doubts of leaving our home in New Hampshire but after this winter, I know it is the right decision for us…this relentless winter just sealed the deal. I especially appreciate your wish for a slow melt, you understand the problems (flooding) that can occur if it happens too fast.

  20. I hate the cold and I am complaining about our winter. Thanks goodness it is nothing like this!!! February in South Africa is where I would prefer to be but…. Keep warm Diane

    1. Hi Diane, I think it is part of our nature to complain about the weather as we all love a perfect outdoor day. This has been an exceptionally hard winter for New England with so much snow over a short period of time. I know you would enjoy escaping winter just like we are getting ready to do with our move to Florida this year. Thankfully your winters aren’t too severe…you live in such a lovely and historical part of France. Hopefully we will get a chance to visit your area again as our life simplifies. 🙂

    1. I have to agree with you Sam, about how pretty our yellow colonial looks surrounding with snow…it is just as pretty with only 6 inches though. 😀 So true about our decision to move to Florida, we can’t wait. Perhaps we will be able to get together sometime in the future.

  21. Wow Karen, that is a massive amount of snow! Makes me feel cold just looking at it. Loved seeing your photos, as always, your home looks beautiful! xo

  22. I think FL would be great about now since we have the same weather as you are showing in NH. I love snow and our winter was mild after the record November blizzard, but then the end of January let loose. You have wonderful FL images and that is the place to be. When in Maui this year, I did the same thing, following the snow, wind and frigid weather seen at home – all with a slight smile on my face. Wearing shorts was wonderful. I do have to admit though, skiing in shorts is something we did when I was younger. It always made the news so it was fun to play off the sunny days in the Utah snow.

    1. Hi Donna, It was nice to get away from the snow and cold just as you did. Now it is back to the real world…shoveling snow later today but only 3 additional inches from over night.

  23. We’ve had very cold weather in Toronto, but New England has definitely beat us in the snow department. I think we’re all counting down the days until spring. Your NH home is gorgeous, but I can see why Florida beckons!

    1. Thank you Beth, for your compliment about our home…we will certainly miss it but not the winter snowstorms. This year, they have been none stop with lots of snow each storm.

  24. Sounds like you’ve made the right decision. We moved from Wisconsin to North Carolina 34 years ago and have never regretted it. The summers are quite lovely but give me NC any day! Hope you withstand the rest of the winter. Spring is right around the corner!

    1. Hi Chris, We do think we have made the right decision to move south. As you say, summer is lovely in New England but the winters can be brutal. I know we are all looking forward to spring…even your area has had bad weather.

  25. My daughter lives in Tampa. When I told her I was planning on coming down for a visit in February she told me that she wanted to come home! While we haven’t had it as bad as you folks in New England, western Pennsylvania is still pretty miserable this year. Althoughshe hasn’t been “home” in a couple years, this ain’t the year. (Although she told me it was 34 this morning there 😦 We had a bone chilling -17 this morning. If it weren’t for the horses, I would not have left the house at all! Your home looks beautiful, any season. Bet your new home will be, too.

    1. Hi Rosemary, I agree…winter is not the time for your daughter to “come home”, I hope you get to visit your daughter in Florida instead. Thank you for your compliment about our home. Our house in Florida will be very different but we are looking forward to the adventures of creating a new and welcoming home.

  26. I keep seeing one storm after another for the northeast on the weather report. Lucky you have a getaway and hope the airplane stays on schedule. Some of that cold weather has dipped down to us here on the Gulf Coast but no snow and back to the 70’s tomorrow..

    1. Hi Jovina, We were lucky to get out just before one snowstorm but our return was delayed by another blizzard…in this case, it wasn’t a bad thing to spend extra days in the warm Florida weather.

  27. Woah I can’t imagine how cold that must be. We get snow some years, but lucky to get 2 inches. Snow creates Beautiful pictures but the reality is far from that. Keep warm!

    1. Thank you Susan for your compliment, I’m glad you enjoyed the photos. You are right, a couple inches of beautiful white snow makes me much happier than lots of feet of snow. 🙂

  28. -12F? I make that -24C. I can’t even imagine what that’s like! The coldest cities I’ve been to were Berlin and Prague, temperatures in both of them around -12C or 10F the times I went there. And I thought the weather here last month, that felt like -4 or 24, was bad enough! Actually, for where I live that’s unbelievably cold for an entire month in winter. Let’s get to spring, and quick about it. 🙂 Lovely to see your new home, btw.

    1. Hi Johnny, I’m glad you enjoyed seeing our new home…they are making great progress with the construction. I totally agree, spring can’t come soon enough as this has been a terrible winter for so many of us.

  29. We haven’t had NEAR that much snow but it’s pretty miserable here. I’d rather be in Florida. My SIL invited me to be her guest at their time share in Florida for the 2nd week in March. I turned her down and almost regret it but I need to work. (sigh)

    1. Hi Boleyn, It is a shame that you couldn’t get time away from work to use your SIL’s time share in Florida. I know Canada has had lots of extremely cold days…I know we are all looking forward to warmer spring weather.

  30. Glad you were able to escape to Florida for part of the winter. It was like we were having a snow storm every other day. I know you got a whole lot more than I, we are expecting another storm tomorrow.
How exciting to be building and decorating a new home, looking forward to reading about the progress and see you interior designs, I know it will be fabulous. Stay warm.

    1. Hi Norma, We have always enjoyed spending a little time in Florida in February to celebrate our anniversary in warm weather. You are right, one snowstorm after another has created the most snow ever. I’m happy to know that many of my readers are interested in our new home and its decor. It will be very different from what we have now as it is much smaller with an open concept. I’ll definitely do updates…thanks for your interest. 🙂

  31. Absolutely love the look of your new home to be: a ‘classic modern’ in such lovely surrounds . . . looking forwards to seeing more as time progresses. Perhaps for you the current harsh winter actually has proved it was time . . . without too many regrets . . . .

    1. You are so right, Eha…it was a hard decision to plan to leave our home in New England but after this winter, there are no regrets. I’m glad you like the look of our new home, it is coming along nicely. I’ll be happy to share more posts as work progresses and we start decorating it. Thank you for your nice compliment.

  32. Wow. That’s a lot of snow. Looks like our winter from last year. February has turned bitter cold after a mostly mild winter to date – but we have not had an unusual amount of snow.

  33. Oh Karen, even though the snowy photos look serene and beautiful I can just imagine how difficult this winter is for all the people in your region. Pretty soon it will be over and spring will be there before you know it. And remember , this will be your last snowy winter.

    1. Hi Gerlinde, You are so right, knowing that this is our last winter in New England has helped. We just have to get though the next month or two of an icy driveway and the melting piles of snow in the spring. Then we can put our house on the market and when it is sold pack up for Florida. Thank you for your kind thoughts.

  34. Happy Anniversary! There is such a contrast between the Florida and the New Hampshire photos that it is hard to imagine they were taken in the same country in the same season. I hope you will show us some pictures of the interior of the new house when it’s finished. 😉

    1. Thank you B, we had a lovely anniversary. The difference between the states is striking, isn’t it. I will be more than happy to share photos of our new home…it will be as different in decor as the states. 😀

  35. I thought you had already moved! Sunny Florida is for sure more pleasant during the winter season, but I bet you will miss snow soon enough 🙂 Until then, stay warm!

    1. Hi Angie, Our home in Florida is still under construction and won’t be finished for a couple more months. As soon as the snow melts, we will put our home in New Hampshire up for sale and move once it is sold. I’m sure that I will miss celebrating Christmas without a little snow on the ground but not the many feet we have over the course of our New England winters. 🙂

  36. What beautiful photographs. The frost and icicles look amazing – but what an awful lot of snow that is! We’ve had a few snow storms in the north of England this year, but absolutely nothing compared to that. I hope that all goes well with your move. G

    1. Thank you Georgina, for your compliment. I’m happy to know that you enjoyed the photos of our winter this year. We are looking forward to moving to Florida but will miss our lovely New England home.

  37. Hi Karen and this is a really great post. The only accounts I’ve seen are from the news, and it’s nice to have an actual person report on the snow events. You’re going to think I’m crazy, but I’d rather be in those snowy photos. But remember, I live in Colorado. 🙂 Just not a fan of Florida.

    1. Thank you Lea Ann, I’m glad that you enjoyed the post and photos. I had to laugh about your comment on Florida. After we moved from Florida to New Hampshire twenty years ago, I say I would never go back to south Florida. What I’ve learned after all these years is to never say “never”. 😀

  38. Times (and attitudes) change things.
Hubby and I NEVER thought we would want to leave our home, but lately we have been mulling over a change as well.
Our problem is that we LOVE the cool summers here ,….and even the snowy winters….just not so LONG of a winter. I’d love for it to end in March, unfortunately, the past few springs have given us snow right in to May. That’s a bit much!

So glad you had a lovely time down there and hope all is progressing well.
    Have a wonderful weekend, Karen

    1. Hi Sue, I have to agree with you about our attitudes changing. Winters seem to be colder and longer…or is it that as each year passes, we notice them more. 🙂 I’ve seen your -24 degree nighttime temps and that alone would have you thinking that way. We did enjoy our trip south and are very happy with the progress on our new house.

  39. Hi Karen, you are having more of a winter than what we are having here in Finland…two years in a row! We had a short and sweet “real” winter but now during the past couple of days it is only raining and gray and making all of the roads slick with a layer of ice and water on top. Your Florida vacay looked like a dream! and your new home beautiful…but I must say that your old home is very lovely. Will it be hard to leave it behind? Next week I head to Turkey with a friend to enjoy the warmth of their spring. Can’t wait to photograph and find the story of their country.

    1. Hi Laila, Isn’t it amazing about about our two winters. Icy roads are so dangerous…take care. It will be very hard to leave our beautiful New Hampshire home behind but we are looking forward to the new adventures that lie ahead for us in Vero Beach. Enjoy your trip to Turkey, I’ll look forward to your posts.

  40. Any normal person would rather be in Florida, especially after this long winter. Michigan has missed many of the big storms but it is very cold now. My brother lives on the Big Island and a sister lives in Florida – I am doing something wrong here 🙂

    1. Your comment gave me a laugh, Judi. I think you are normal, maybe just hardier than your brother, sister and my husband and I. I did make note that at least half the people I met on our visit to Florida were from northern parts of our country…maybe we are all wimps. 😀

  41. I am with you on the fact that a trip is really needed right now. WE have less than you guys, but is still horrible down here in New York. And more snow is on the way today. Where is spring????

    1. Hi Gisela, February has always been our time to escape the snow and cold for a little while…we left right after the first blizzard dumped almost three feet of snow on the ground and we come back to lots more. I think we are all looking forward to spring and the warmth that will melt the snow. Thank you for your visit.

  42. Karen, no doubt in my mind you are grateful you made the decision to move south! We’ve had quite a contrasting winter here in the PNW. Very mild. It’s been in the 50s and 60s for about a month! Crocuses are blooming a month early already and trees are starting to bloom. I am afraid for all the trees and vegetation if winter really does decide to come back! I look forward to your journey to Florida to your new home.

    1. Hi Kathryn, After the last few weeks…there is no doubt in our mind about moving for Florida. I hope that your winter continues to be mild, I happy for anyone not having to deal with all this snow and cold. I’m glad that you are going to enjoy following along on our new adventures in Vero Beach, thank you!

  43. My sister in Massachusetts is hiring people to get the (7ft and counting) crazy snow off of her roof while I am wondering if my peach tree is perhaps blooming a bit too soon… Stay safe where ever you “winter”!

    1. Hi Rachel, Everyone is having to get the snow off their roofs this year. We have had the porch done twice but our two story roof is too steep to be safely shoveled. Thank you for your wish, we will be “wintering” in New Hampshire this year but this will be the last. 🙂 It sounds like you a having a very mild Texas winter, hopefully you don’t get a hard freeze on your peach tree.

  44. Wow! Karen…what a winter! I have heard about snowstorms up in the north of the country but 3 feet of snow is a lot. Leaving the house, which seems to be something so simple, it becomes something quite complicated there. I am more a beach person. I hope your house in Florida is ready soon so you can escape in the winter time.

    1. Thank you for your wish Denise, our house should be finished in April or May. This should be our last winter dealing with snow. You are correct, leaving the house to run errands at this time of the year can be a real challenge.

    1. Crazy is right Liz. We are accustomed to lots of snow but it doesn’t usually come so often and with so much during each storm. We throughly enjoyed the warmth of the sun on our trip to Florida…thanks.

    1. I agree with you Amy…it’s that “BUT”. I believe this is one winter we won’t forget anytime soon. I hope we all get to enjoy a gentle warmup to safely melt the snow this spring.

    1. Thank you for your warm wish Gretchen, it is bitterly cold here today. We did enjoy our warm escape…it was much needed at this time of the year.

  45. Zero degrees here this morning, and snowing again right now. We have about 4 ft on the ground. Pipes freezing all over the place, the main water line froze Thurs., so people were without water for 5 hours. I never wanted to go to FL , I thought it was wussy to run from winter. I have changed my mind. I would like to go for Feb., but I couldn’t stand it in summer. Plus my 5 gkids are here and I would miss them. Your yellow house looks so pretty in the snow!
Wishing you an early Spring from Southampton, NY!

    1. Oh Kathleen…isn’t this a terrible winter. We have sun today but it is so cold outside that even the icicles aren’t dripping. No doubt summer in Florida will be hot but being 5 minutes away from the ocean, we should get cooling breezes. Our children and grandchildren all live in Florida and will only be a two hour drive south. Thank you for your compliment on our home and your wish. Let’s hope for a gradual spring warmup so all this snow will slowly melt without flooding.

    1. We did have a good trip, thank you Donna. Let’s hope all our snow will slowly melt as the spring weather arrives…it will be nice to see green peaking out of the snow when it does.

  46. Oh my stars! I started to say that you came home too early with all that snow still on the ground but after reading about your thermostat and the busted pipe – I would say you made it home just in time! Your new home is coming along swimmingly and just think – this time next year you will be in that home full time and not have to worry about all that snow!

    1. Hi Kelli, We got home just in the nick of time. I can’t imagine the problem we would have had if it had happened at the beginning of our trip. Yes, it will be nice to know that once we are in our new home, we won’t have to worry about snow. 🙂

    1. We have way more snow than usual Lisa, but I do have to agree with you and all my readers…it is pretty. Living in our rural area, it stays pristine and white except for the occasional dried leave take skips across its surface. We are excited about are move…we will put our home up for sale as soon as the snow melts.

    1. Hi Dedy, Your comment made me smile. I used to say that I could eat with abandon in the winter but over the years a pound or two creeps on even with lots of snow shoveling. 😀

  47. Dear Karen, what a winter you are having – although I adore all of the pictures with all that snow, I can understand your decision to móve back South! We are having a rather snowfree winter in these parts and we do miss it a bit but certainly not as much as wanting to have that much snow all around us! So very nice that you have friends to look after your house while you are gone and I hope your basement is dry by now!
Keep safe and warm and all the best from afar,
    Andrea

    1. Hi Andrea, I think we all love a little snow…especially around the Christmas holidays. I also think most of us would be very happy with just a few inches instead of lots of feet worth unless it is for skiing. We are very lucky indeed to have wonderful friends to look after our home during our travels. Thank you for your warm wish, my friend.

  48. Oh my! I see what you mean, Karen! I don’t blame you for moving down south. I feel the same thing about England: after living here for 30 years, I can’t wait to move back to south east Spain, where I was born.
Your pictures are absolutely amazing and the comparison between New England and Florida did make me laugh. I love all those icicles hanging off your roof: that would make a perfect Christmas card for this year. You are indeed blessed having such wonderful friends to look after your beautiful house while you’re away. You just can’t put a price on that.
I’m glad you had a extended holiday and I hope you had a smashing wedding anniversary too. All the best. 🙂

    1. Thank you for your sweet comment, Fatima. We did have a wonderful anniversary and loved spending it in the warm and sunny Florida. As much as we love our beautiful New Hampshire home, we are really looking forward to our move south. You are correct, good friends are priceless. 🙂

  49. The winter photographs are beautiful but I’d rather admire them from a distance 😉 I’d definitely choose Florida to spend the winter. I am lucky to live in a rather mild climate (I always find it difficult to convince people from abroad that here in my Swiss city the climate is warmer than for example in Paris 😉 People imagine Switzerland full of snow and freezing cold in winter.). To be frank, even I was surprised to discover how warm winter was when we moved here. On the other hand I would have nothing against more sun and even higher temperatures… I understand you perfectly!

    1. Thank you for your nice compliment, Sissi. I’m glad to know that you enjoyed the photos. I think that everyone thinks of Switzerland being full of snow and freezing cold weather because of the Swiss Alps. I think you are probably near Lake Geneva where if my memory is correct, I’ve seen palm trees growing by the shore. Yes, from now on I want to live where it is warm enough for palm trees to grow. 🙂

  50. It’s been a long, long winter! And while it looks absolutely beautiful, it has also been a somewhat exhausting proposition haha. Stay warm and I know you must be looking forward to more sunny months in FL!

    1. Hi Ksenia, It really has been a long winter and we are still in the month of February. Exhausting is right…I’ve been chipping ice off our driveway, a very slow process. We really are looking forward to our time in Florida. Thank you for your wish, stay warm as well.

  51. We (my husband, my mother and I) have been watching the weather in the NE this year and are just blown away at how much snow and unrelentless Mother Nature has been! Though it is so beautiful, as seen in your photos, I am glad that you had help and a chance to have a break in sunny Florida! These photos remind us of life in Iowa and all of the blizzards. It was just part of life for us. Moving to SC, it’s been amazing how much we’ve adjusted to a moderate climate and now how cold we get when visiting family in Iowa! Stay warm Karen!
    Hugs,
    Roz

    1. Mother Nature isn’t always kind and certainly not this winter with what she has been dishing out. I agree with you about cold…it is relative. We were chilly in Florida a couple of windy evenings when we were out by the ocean without a jacket. I’m glad you enjoyed the photos and appreciate your wish to stay warm, thank you. 🙂

  52. Hi Karen, glad you managed to stay warm even though you had to leave the state to do it! Talk about extremes! I like that you can still stop and see the beauty in the snow despite the difficulties it brings. I especially love the patterns on the frosty window. Stay cosy!

    1. Hi Hester, It was nice to leave the snow and cold for even a little while. As much as we complain about all our snow, it is indeed beautiful, especially in our rural area where it stays white. I’m with you, I enjoy the pretty patterns that develop over the course of a day on the windows…it is magical. Thank you for your nice wish.

    1. Hi Raymund, There is nothing prettier than a sunny day with a deep blue sky and sparkling white snow on the ground…no matter who much of it there is.

  53. Oh my goodness, if it ever snows in Hong kong, I am so out of here. I have become the biggest cold weather wimp since moving to balmy Asia. When living in the States, we used to flee to somewhere warm as you need to see that sun to get you through the thick of it. However, even though it is snowy looks like you have had some beautiful sunny days. Stay warm and take care

    1. Hi Bobbie, I think you are probably safe about getting snow in Hong Kong. 🙂 Actually, there is nothing prettier than a sunny day when the snow sparkles like jewels…it is just that everyone in our area wishes we didn’t have so much snow in such a short period of time. Thank you for your wish.

  54. When I left Maine and moved south to go to college, I knew I’d never struggle through another snowy winter back home. I miss the beauty of the first day’s snowfall and the crunch under my boots as I walk along the road. I miss snow skiing and snowmobiling and ice fishing too. Just not enough to live there. 🙂

The new house is really coming along!

    1. I totally agree with you Maureen, there are many things that I will miss about New England but not the harsh winters…this February is officially the coldest one in history for New Hampshire. Yes, the house is coming along well. A couple more months and it should be finished. 🙂

  55. Your photos of both places are equally stunning, Karen. 🙂 Though, living in piping hot Queensland, I’m especially partial to the snowy ones. What a winter you’ve had!!

    1. Thank you for your nice compliment, Krista. I’m happy to know that you enjoyed the photos. One thing is for sure…snow is pretty. I just wish there wasn’t so much of it on the ground.

  56. I’ve been watching and reading about the absurdly cold/snowy weather up north ! I’m firmly in your camp of heading south for the winter to warmer weather. I have to admit though, as an observer, I do see the snow and think of how cozy and romantic it all is, but I’ve only every lived in Australia or SE Asia where there is no snow – my husband, who is English says the first snow is always beautiful, but then it melts and gets dirty and you slip on the ice – painting a very opposite picture 🙂

    1. Hi Carolyn, We have had a “wicked” winter. This February is the coldest in recorded history for New Hampshire. Snow is pretty but we all wish there was less of it. Your husband is correct for the most part…snow does get dirty and sloppy if you live in cities. Here at our rural home, the snow stays very white until it melts. Ice yes, our drive looks like a sheet of glass and you have to be very careful not to slip and fall.

  57. Having not had too many ‘Winter Wonderland’ experiences, I am definitely enchanted by their appearance but if I’m completely honest with myself, I would have to say that I prefer the look of your place on Vero Beach. Your new home looks like it’s coming along beautifully and the climate looks like it will agree with you xx

    1. We do live in a winter wonderland, Charlie and I’m the first so say how pretty it is as I look out the window this morning. It is below zero but will warm up to 18F with a little snow tonight so I will prefer our place in Vero Beach too, where it is suppose to be mostly sunny and 80F today. 😀

    1. Hi Jo, It certainly is serious snow. As soon as it all melts in spring, we will put our home up for sale. Once it is sold, we will move into our new home in Florida…hopefully it won’t take too long.

  58. I remember traveling on snowy roads back in New England. Thanks, but no thanks. It took forever to get from A to B. Very beautiful though. Sometimes it’s just too much snow.

Congratulations on your decision to move south. I am sure you will be very happy there.

    Kimberly

    1. Hi Kimberly, Thank you for stopping by to visit and your nice compliment. New England winters do bring a lot of snow. The nice thing is, I won’t have to worry about staying home until the roads are cleared of snow once we make our move. 🙂

  59. Has it been unbelievable or what? At least you got out of town & were able to take a break from it. I was wondering what you did about having your house checked while you were gone, especially with the bitter cold we’ve been having. That is a bummer though about the pipe freezing. We’ve been lucky? so far in that we’ve only had one leak from where our porch roof meetings the side of the house in back and the water came down through the window. I don’t know about you, but when it’s like this even though I’m inside & have the heat jacked up, I just am not motivated to do anything. You’d think my house would be sparkling clean but I go into brain freeze and can’t seem to get anything done.
Soon, spring has to be coming soon doesn’t it?

    1. Hi Diane, This really has been an unbelievable winter with a storm almost every other day. It is so cold that my heavy snow boots became brittle and one cracked into pieces. Fingers crossed that spring warms us up gently because I don’t know where all the water from the melting snow will go if it happens too fast. We really were lucky that the burst pipe must have just happened right before we got home.

  60. Oh, wow, Karen! I’m glad you didn’t have more damage in your basement but the snow is truly amazing. We just returned from a week in California where we had mid to upper 80s all week and returned to wake up to -7 this morning. Ouch! But we don’t have never that amount of snow. The east coast certainly has been hammered this this. Your new home looks lovely and I’m sure you’ll be looking forward to heading south for good!

    1. Hi Susan, We really were fortunate with our basement, the pipe must have broke right before we got home. We love our trips to the warm weather, but you are right…it hard when you return to the real world of below freezing temperatures and yes, all the snow. Thank you for the compliment on our new home, we are looking forward to our move. This winter has made us realize we definitely made the right decision.

  61. Karen, I have always loved your blog posts and the pictures of your New Hampshire home. I think they will always be in my memories. I have been thinking of the people in New England and what a harsh winter that you are experiencing. I have new neighbors that just moved in across the street in October from Boston. They are so thankful they are here but very concerned about their family they left behind in Boston. Hope you have a safe and pleasant transition to Florida.

    1. Thank you for your lovely compliment, Southern…it is nice to know that you have enjoyed my posts and photos. I know your new neighbors must be happy that they escaped this winter, it has been a harsh one. We are looking forward to our new adventures in Florida once we can get our home on the market and it is sold. I appreciate your nice wish.

  62. Thankfully, here in London, Ontario we’ve been spared the harsh winter that we had last year, but it seems that you and others on the eastern seaboard are not so lucky. I feel for you, and can relate to how you must be yearning for spring. I know I am. Although we haven’t had as much snow, we’ve been under bitterly cold temperatures. Looking forward to warm breezes and green ground. Green… (Or, time in Florida! Lucky you!)

    1. Hi Marlene, You have not had as much snow but I have seen that you have had our bitter temperatures. Even though our Florida home will be finished in a couple of months we won’t be moving until our home is sold. Yes, I’m looking forward to when our white world is replaced with a green one and later, replacing apple trees with palm trees. 🙂

    1. Thank you for your lovely comment, Rosa. I’m glad you enjoyed the photos of our New Hampshire winter and hopefully someday you will get to see it in person. I’ve missed your beautiful photographs while you are on your blogging break…I’m glad all is well with you.

  63. Snow provides beautiful images, but to receiving that much, I say no thanks … and we’ve received less than a third of your total. Meanwhile, cheers to getting away to Florida, and bigger cheers to wonderful neighbors!

    1. I think we all wish we could have said “no thanks” to all this snow, Frank. It was nice to get a break where it was sunny and warm. We are very grateful to have such good friends that look after our home and property whenever we travel…we couldn’t do without them.

  64. You know what Karen? I think the pictures are beautiful! Maybe it’s because I am a transplanted Canadian living in England and our total “snowfall” this year was less than a cm, but I miss the beauty of snow falling on an evening and waking up to being “snowed in” and the woodstove keeping us toasty. I do get why you (and all my friends in Canada!) are tired of “the beauty” now though. I guess I can afford to wax lyrical when I don’t have to shovel the stuff anymore 😉

    1. Thank you for your visit and your compliment, Katherine…they are very much appreciated. I’m going to miss the four seasons when we move to Florida, but I’ll have my memories about how beautiful they are as well as how harsh nature can be at times.

  65. Our dear friends from Illinois are selling their house there and moving to Scottsdale for the same reasons, the winters are becoming brutal. Last year we lost power and I was afraid some pipes might burst but we were very fortunate, we got power back after only 28 hours. Many people were without power on the coldest days of the year for more than 8 days. We purchased a generator this year so if it happens again, we’ll have heat, hot water and we’ll plug the refrigerator and freezer in. I can do without lights and TV.

  66. Hi Eva, It has indeed been a brutal winter. I think a lot of people are making a move south…if not permanently at least for the winter months. Our pipe breaking was caused by a bad battery in a thermostat, we were lucky that it happened right before we got home. Thankfully, we have a whole house generator if our power goes out. When we had the bad ice storm a couple years ago, we were on our generator for six days…I think they are wonderful.

    1. I wish I hadn’t seen this much either, Grange…6 inches on the ground would be just as pretty. Moving south looks better each day of this long winter.

    1. Hi Jo, There is not much you can do but brave it out. The snow hasn’t been coming as often or with as much intensity this week…thank goodness!

    1. Thank you Kay, I’m glad you enjoyed the photos. Yes, we did enjoy the warmer weather…we think February is a good month to get out of the cold.

  67. Happy Anniversary!!! So glad you were able to get out of the cold and snow for a couple of weeks. The shots of the snow are amazing!!! I can’t believe how much snow you’re getting. A friend of mine lives in Bristal, RI and the pictures she is sending me are almost scary…beautiful…but scary. Looks like you’re hanging in there in spite of it all. Keep smiling!

    1. Thank you MJ, We had a lovely anniversary and certainly did enjoy the warmth. It was nice to get away from all this snow for a little while. It truly is pretty but it would be just as pretty in a much smaller amount…oh well. 😀

  68. I know how difficult it’s been for New Englanders this year. We haven’t had nearly that much here in NJ, and I’m ready to move south! At least for us, I don’t think this winter is nearly as bad as last year. Good luck with the rest – and it’s almost spring!

    1. Hi Amy, I bet if you talked to most anyone in the northeast, that many are thinking of heading south…if not permanently, at least for the winters. In our twenty years in New England, this winter is breaking all kinds of records. Spring can’t come soon enough, thank you for your wish.

  69. One of my best friends, an ex-Californian, lives in Boston and this is the first year that I’ve heard a kind of defeat in her voice! I just think what you’re describing is brutal, and I’m so happy for you to be returning to Florida. And it sounds like you’l be a lot closer to your family which should be lovely as well! Thanks for the photos! I can’t imagine snow up to the second floor windows! I’m looking forward to following along as your new home is built and you get a whole new lease on life! 🙂

    1. Hi Debra, This certainly is the kind of winter that can wear down the hardiest of souls. We can’t wait until we can make our move to Florida. Yes, we will be just a two hours drive from our family and that will be one of the added benefits of our move. I’m happy to know that you will be following along on our new adventure, thank you!

    1. Thank you for your lovely compliment, Ladyfi. We love our New Hampshire home but winters are wearing us down. I think our move will lead to all kinds of new and enjoyable adventures.

  70. Hi Karen,
I must admit, Karen as I watch those weather reports I cross my fingers that the snow storms they are predicting are going to miss us here in central PA. Some have but of course some haven’t. It’s been a brutal February!

You were very fortunate to be able to get away for some of it but not long enough for it all to have been a freezing dream. I always worry about leaving the house in the Winter because of freezing pipes and such. It wouldn’t stop me though! I am very lucky to have wonderful neighbors too.

As Winter wonderland beauty fades, the reality of all that snow does not! The house down in Florida looks warm and inviting. You certainly have made a wise decision. Good Lord willing and the creek don’t freeze, I won’t be far behind. I will not spend another Winter here no matter what!!!

Thanks so much for sharing, Karen…hang on tight there’s {another} storm a brewing. However, it won’t be long before we’ll be Springing ahead and Spring will arrive…

    1. I’m glad you have missed a lot of the storms, Louise but I do know that like us, it will be the coldest February in your area as well. It definitely is hard to leave our homes to travel in the winter, thank goodness for good friends. I can’t wait until I can see daffodils poking green leaves out of the melting snow banks. 🙂

  71. That is a whole lot of snow that you recently went through! The snow is huge! You look great though! I am happy to hear that you spent a great time with your children & grandkids in Florida! x

  72. I was a Michigander for half my life….so I get it. Storms like these were the norm when I lived there; there weren’t names for them either, which is, I think, ridiculous. And also, half the reason I moved to Florida. Spring is around the corner for you….hang in there.

    1. Hi Barbara, I agree with you about naming the winter storms…I think it silly. When spring warmth melts the snow, our home will go on the market and I’ll be happy when I’ll be a happy Floridian just like you. 🙂

  73. Wow…it is cold! Since I cannot tolerate cold well, I will definitely choose the beach pictures…now, I must admit that the pictures of the snow are beautiful especially the view from the window…
    Stay warm Karen 🙂

    1. Hi Juliana, I agree about the beauty of snow but adding bitter cold weather and it is a combination that I’ve certainly grown tired of and I’m with you about the beach. 🙂

  74. A lot of snow even in my eyes! Your photos are wonderful, snow in them is pure white. Couple years ago we moved to a small town called Mikkeli, because we were tired to shovel snow.

    1. Hi Sartenada, That’s says a lot coming from someone living in Finland. I know what you mean…shoveling snow grows old quickly. I’m ready for spring as I’m sure you are. 🙂

    1. Hi Katerina, This winter is breaking records for both snow and cold.Yes, no question in most people’s mind…south is definitely the right choice. 🙂

    1. Dreadful, indeed Tandy. Thank you for your wish, we have our fingers crossed. Hopefully, we won’t have more problems although everyone is a little concerned about when this snow starts melting.

  75. Karen, you might think me absolutely bonkers but currently I could not imagine anything nicer than a veritable snow storm followed by a sunny day with that blue sky and ice flowers on the windows, crisp, fresh air and maybe a few turns on the slopes. Anything to work of all those croissants with orange marmalade ;). Nicole

  76. Dios Mios! Karen what a pile of snow and what a winter this has been!! You were lucky to escape up North and get down South as so many folks could not travel by car or plane for a couple of weeks. I just escaped to Mexico for a week and the big Southern snow/ice/sleet hit us the day after I left! Great photos of the contrasting landscapes! Stay warm and cozy Karen.

    1. Hi Teresa, Isn’t it nice when we can escape winter, is only for a little while. I’m glad you enjoyed the contrast between New Hampshire and Florida, thank you. It sounds like your timing was impeccable. 🙂 Enjoy Mexico.

  77. The weather in New England has been unbelievable – I’m so glad that you were in sunny Florida this month. We just had a snowstorm in Virginia which is unusual. Hopefully it will start warming up soon!!

    1. Hi Meg, This winter’s weather is breaking lots of records here and it was wonderful to escape it for a little while. Back to reality now…we are supposed to get another 5 inches or so over Sunday night into Monday morning. Spring can’t come soon enough. 🙂

  78. Shiver me timbers! I love the photo of you in all that snow, Karen! And, the juxtaposition of snowy New England and Florida sunshine is quite amazing. Glad you had a fabulous trip to celebrate your anniversary. But, I’m so sorry you had a basement flood. 😦 Thank goodness it wasn’t too bad. No wonder you are moving to Vero Beach! Thanks for sharing and have a lovely weekend!

  79. Oh we are shivering, Stacy…the coldest February in record history here in New Hampshire. I’m glad you enjoyed the photos, there certainly is a contrast, isn’t there. Thank you for your nice comment and wish, I hope you are enjoying your weekend as well.

  80. I grew up in Boston and moved South at 18, and while I sometimes miss New England, I never miss those winters! I’m not cut out for very cold weather. =) My parents still live in our childhood home in MA, so I get to hear all about the cold weather and see lots of snow pictures from them! Love the side-by-side pics of snowy NH vs sunny FL. =D

    1. I certainly understand, Amy…the winters can be very harsh. I know that we will miss living in New Hampshire when we move to Florida but like you, I won’t miss winters.

  81. I hear you Karen, loud and clear!! I live in Upstate NY, and we got a little less snow than you, but man did we get pummeled this year!! We have broken record after record re the cold and below zero temps. Today it is going to be in the 20’s with more snow on the way, and if feels like a tropical heat wave, LOL

    1. You gave me a laugh, Didi as I know what you mean when the 20’s feel warm. Yes, we are getting the snow as well later on today. Sooner or later, this winter weather has to go away. 🙂

  82. You know me Karen, the snow bunny that I am. Having spent a winter in the French Alps where they are equiped to deal with snow on this scale I love dit! But I understand the frustrations when things grind to a halt or as your pipe did, burst. Luckily the leak didn’ sound too damaging.
And good luck with your new home – I forecast more blog posts from Florida!

    1. Hi Claire, While winter can be pretty especially when on vacation, it is hard work keeping up when you have to go about daily life. I’ll be out in the bitter cold this morning shoveling snow yet once again as my husband is out plowing our long drive. After this harsh winter…the coldest in recorded history for our area, we know we have made the right decision to sell our home and move south. Thank you for your wish, we think we will love our new home near the beach in Florida.

  83. Karen, it has been quite the winter here in CO too. We haven’t been hit like your area, but we’ve had 20 inches of snow in the last two weeks. Snow isn’t unusual, it is the lower temps and how long it has lasted. I’m sure your time in Florida was a nice thaw to your bones. I know I’m ready for the sun to warm my face as I sit out on the deck again. Soooooon, very soon.

    1. Hi Judy, 20 inches in two weeks, that’s a lot of snow. That is what happened here as basically all our snow came in the matter of a few weeks. It was nice to get away from the snow and cold but I was out shoveling this morning…at least the sun was out. I know we will all enjoy when springtime arrives and warmth returns.

    1. Hi Grace, This is a winter that New Englanders are sure not to forget anytime soon…we had so much snow with well below average temperatures. Getting harsher…I think so.
